Trane Air Conditioning Unit

We’re in the throes of summer in Northeast Florida, where a working air conditioning system isn’t just a luxury – it’s a necessity. Unfortunately if your recently installed AC system is a Trane, you may be in for a few sweltering days.

The company, along with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission recently announced the recall of nearly 100,600 AC systems, warning consumers that the affected units pose a shock hazard. Affected systems may not be properly grounded because screws used in some units lack the two threads required for sufficient grounding. They’re grey and black in color and were sold nationwide between February 2010 and March 2014 for approximately $890 and $1,000.

If you purchased a Trane system during that time period, check for the Trane or American Standard logo on the front of the unit, and for one of these model numbers printed on the a silver plate on the back of the unit (To be safe, turn off your AC unit via your home or building’s main breaker switch first):

If your Trane system has one of these model numbers, leave it turned off. We know – it’s hot and getting hotter, with temperatures in the mid- to upper-90s forecast throughout the summer. But your temporary discomfort is a whole lot better than a permanent injury. Though no injuries have been reported thus far, the risk does exist.
